Beberapa definisi pengertian Public Relitions / Hubungan Masyarakat

Menurut kamus British Institute of Public Relations (IPR) terbitan bulan November 1987 : Secara terencana dan berkesinambungan dalam rangka menciptakan dan memelihara niat baik dan saling pengertian antara satu organisasi dengan segenap khalayaknya.

Menurut Frank Jefkins : Sesuatu yang merangkum keseluruhan komunikasi yang terencana baik itu kedalam maupun keluar, antara satu organisasi dengan senua khalayaknya dalam rangka mencapai tujuan-tujuan spesifik yang berlandaskan pada saling pengertian.

Menurut Pernyataan asosiasi-asosiasi Public Relations di mexiko : Suatu seni sekaligus suatu disiplin ilmu sosial yang menganalisis berbagai kecendrungan, memperkirakan setiap kemungkinan konsekuensi darinya, memberi masukan dan saran-saran kepada pemimpin organisasi, serta menerapkan program-program tindakan yang terencana untuk melayani kebutuhan organisasi dan / kepentingan khalayaknya.

Menurut Public Relations 6th edition, Schot M.Cutlip, Allen H.Center, Glen M. : Public Relations is the management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or an organization with the public interest and plans and executise a program of action to earn public understanding acceptance (public relations news)

Menurut Dr. Rex F. Harlow : Public Relations is a distinctive management function wich helps and stablish, a maintain mutual lines of communications understanding, acceptance and cooperation between an organization and its publics ; involves the management of problems or issue helps management to keep informed on and responsive to public opinion ; defines and emphasizes the responsibility of management to serve the public interest ; helps management keep abreast of and effectively ulilize change ; serving as an early warning system to help anticipate trends and uses research and sound and ethical communication as its principaltwis.
